Our Story

Hi! Welcome to the farm!  We are so glad that you stopped by.  Our little farm started in 2017 with just 25 pounds of garlic. Since then, we have grown exponentially and have been enjoying the journey.

The mission of our farm is to use natural, sustainable practices to grow nutrient-dense foods, while educating others to do the same.

Melissa –

I grew up on a small, hobby farm in west Michigan.  My family owned a large variety of livestock over the years including horses, cows, goats, chickens, ducks, and rabbits.  I showed beef steers and goats in the county 4-H and rode on the equestrian team. My family always had a large garden and canned a wide variety of foods.  Some of the best memories are of all of the family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins) getting together to go strawberry, blueberry, or apple picking and then spending the whole day canning jam, applesauce, or apple butter.

Chett –

Chett grew up in a small town in northern Michigan.  His family raised horses and chickens and grew a large garden each summer.  Since he was very young Chett has always enjoyed spending all of his time outdoors and it was not uncommon for Chett to get up early to do his school work in order to spend the rest of the day outside.  Camping, hiking, and fishing have always been some of his favorite activities.

Chett and I met the summer of 2010 and were married in 2014. Chett is a registered nurse.  Through his career, he has spent many years working in the Emergency Room, as well as a year working in Sierra Leone, West Africa.   I spent three years teaching, one year in Kenya, Africa and two years in a small town in Maine before becoming a stay-at-home mom.

During our time in Maine, Chett and I had a garden each summer.  Every summer, our garden would get larger, and we realized more and more how much we enjoyed working on the land and growing our own food.  I also had some wonderful friends who taught me more about canning and preserving different foods as well as valuable skills such as baking bread.

In 2017 we moved back to Michigan and our dream of farming started to become more of a reality. We planted our first crop of garlic that fall on our property. The next summer we built a greenhouse, garden, and added a well to the property. Our family of three also grew to a family of four!
